Kurt Bassuener presented his draft discussion paper “Western Balkans Go West – An Interpretive Lens, Cautionary Tale, and Perhaps Escape Route for Contemporary Western Politics” at Canterbury Christ Church University at its second “Europe and the Everyday” workshop held September 20-21.
In his paper and talk, he continued the theme he began exploring in his “Selling Fog” speech for the Fulbright Endcap conference in Edinburgh (see below): the parallels between the sort of populism developed and still practiced in the Balkans and that being pursued in established democracies, including the United States.
